Case Study #1 – NEW DEVELOPMENT
RESIDENTIAL – Napa, CA – Site Location
Client: Resident
Over a period of one year, FENG SHUI ELEGANCE, Int’l. consulted with a client moving into a brand new development with her husband and children. The family in question wanted assistance in selecting a lot within the community as well as determining which materials to use in each of the rooms, advice on room assignments, and additional information for the overall harmony and balance of their new home life in the SF Bay area.
First, a discussion was set-up to go over some design issues with the home they were moving out of, so the transition would be smoother. Consultant and client worked by phone and fax to discuss issues. Besides the parents, there were three children, and a dog, to account for, in terms of best directions, locations, colors, room layout, etc. Carmen, the mother, who requested the consultation, would call every two weeks and discuss what was most important at that time for her. During the two weeks in-between calls, she would compile her questions in her feng shui journal and then quite methodically consultant and client would address each item.
The new, 2970 sf home on a 9678 sf lot, was a Sandpiper in The Preserve development, near the town of Napa. We both agreed that the lot chosen was best given the principles of the Form school, which pays strict attention to the land’s topography and building orientation. This was also taking into account the personal directions of the husband and wife, primarily.
As with all clients who consult for a duration of 10 or more hours, an in-depth report is prepared, published in a spiral binding, to be used as a reference guide in the years to come. It includes the logistics as well as the finer points of feng shui consulting. Each occupant’s best directions and locations were used to assign rooms, choose color themes, orient furniture, and balance personal elements.
Once the family moved in, there were no further issues and things progressed very nicely for the family. They are quite happy, even years later. This is a true feng shui success story.
"I didn’t want to admit just how right you were, but I’m so grateful now because I am much happier as a result of following your advice. I was skeptical, but you have dissolved every doubt from my mind. Thank you."
FE, Realtor, San Anselmo, CA
Case Study #2 – INAUSPICIOUS DESIGN
RESIDENTIAL – Belvedere, CA – $11 Million Dollar Estate
Client: High-Profile Executive
Here is the one consultation that demonstrates classical feng shui theory and its cautionary side. An executive selected a property that had two major strikes against it. First, the front door and most of the house was below street level. This is a big red flag for any seasoned feng shui consultant. As soon as you walk in the stairs take you down, and down, and down.
The other factor was the back yard was neither enclosed nor supported behind the property by anything. It dropped off into a big ravine. This is considered extremely inauspicious and promises a loss of wealth. One is not able to contain and protect all that is amassed.
To me the saddest part is that he worked so hard to get this property, and within a few years it, this lovely estate and all of his wealth, were gone…completely. He literally had to start back from scratch. During his time there, there were many efforts to stay on course, but to no avail. Progressively, his reputation in both the community and his industry suffered.
One may debate the superstitious nature of this philosophy, but the number of “coincidences” is quite fascinating to this consultant.
"Teresa, after you feng shui'd my space, I was able to immediately better focus my attention and develop new clients. I was expanding at such a fast rate, that your organizational skills really made a big difference in me coordinating complex efforts in a key directions. You're great!"
GW, Corporate Trainer, Byron Bay, Australia
Case Study #3 - RENOVATION
COMMERCIAL – Bed & Breakfast – San Rafael, CA
Client: Proprietor
Nestled in the downtown area of one of America’s wealthiest counties, is another multi-million dollar property that needed some major feng shui wisdom. The proprietor not only grew up in this home, but so did his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather! A tremendous legacy, this bed & breakfast includes 10 elegant, Victorian bedrooms, that are found throughout the three floors of this little goldmine. Within walking distance to all the cities resources, theaters, restaurants, banks, post office, points of interest, views of the bay, etc., this location was ideal in so many ways. There seemed to be no reason why the venue wasn’t making money, thought the owner.
Several main problems were clear almost immediately. Next to a fire station, across from the police station, the foyer was a narrow entry, and housed in the basement and other buildings in the back of the property, were broken and neglected relics from the many generations that had lived there for so many decades. Additionally, the owner had chosen the tiniest room as his own, and it was in one of his “worst locations”. This is key, because as they say in ancient feng shui texts, “unless the master prospers, no one will prosper!”
Getting the proprietor to part with his treasured items, though broken and in severe states of misuse, was perhaps the most challenging aspect of this consultation. The consultant fortunately combines emotional release work, refined over the last 15 years, to help people move through the emotional blocks that keep clutter in its place. With the serious attachment in this case, it actually took alot of emotional release sessions to finally allow him to call the dumpster rental company. He filled four large dumpsters over the course of several months, as he worked diligently to free his space of the hidden albatrosses.
Next, moving his bedroom to one of his best locations was the task. The only room seemingly possible, in his mind, both from general availability and from a feng shui perspective, was the room his mother had died in. This was obviously not “good feng shui”. The solution was to do a “space clearing” to get fresh energy circulating to bring in more auspicious chi, or life force. A ceremony of a couple hours was performed and had great success. Within only a week of the ceremony, the client was moved in that room and enjoyed the feng shui benefits of going to a higher floor and larger room. He reported a greater sense of authority, better sleep, and increase financial success.
"You relocated me to my success location in my home. I had never thought of using that room as my bedroom. Now I am more in control of my affairs and don't let the tenants boss me around anymore. My health has improved as well. Your knowledge of feng shui is superior to any other consultant that I have tried."

Case Study #4 – WELL-BEING for PATIENTS
COMMERCIAL – Pain Relief Clinic – San Rafael, CA
Client: Director
Working with a pain clinic was a perfect match for this feng shui consultant. Creating an environment where distressed individuals can come in and relax, receive their guided meditation treatments and other physical therapy exercises seemed to be an easily achieved goal. The center itself was the top floor of a medium-sized building. This was very auspicious as the building was not too large for the neighborhood. Other neighborhood circumstances were very positive as well and clients who walked to the clients always spoke of how lovely the area was.
The main concern of the Director was increasing a sense of well-being for patient rooms. There was a large community room where reclining wedges were arranged in a circle, and a few other rooms where clients could be treated individually. The walls were all white, which was not ideal, and there were no signs for the clinic itself. Additionally the décor was homey, but cluttered with a type of hodge-podge of wall hangings, and unfortunately dead flowerpots out front.
The first thing done, as always it to calculate the auspicious compass directions for the director and staff. Once the office for the director was taken care of, we could go on to other areas of the clinic. Her work desk was positioned with her back to the wall and facing one of her best directions, giving her a clear view of the entrance. We made her office less cluttered as well as created more visual focus for better concentration. This was achieved with a few, key “power objects” that were symbolically positioned in here key corners or on those walls.
In other parts of the center, clearing clutter, rethinking color schemes conducive to healing and creating a “friendly path” of chi was effective in creating a well-center that felt welcoming and peaceful to be in. After four visits over one year, each visit for four hours, the job was complete. The Center’s director took notes and tape recorded the sessions and made choices with designers and trades people who fleshed out the actual renovation.
"Everything you said to do, I did, and it worked! Thank you so much, you have really given such a wonderful aura to this space, the clients are all acknowledging the improvements, as is the staff."
MM, Director, Fitness for Living, San Rafael, CA
Case Study #5 - SPA FENG SHUI for MEDICAL SPA
Marin, CA – Chiropractic Clinic
Client: Clinic Director
As director of his own clinic, Dr. Steven Cutler was looking for ways to improve
his business – for himself, his clients, and his staff. Ms. Foxworthy met on a
few occasions to gather information about his vision for his clinic and to get clear on budget for the project. An array of options soon opened up and Dr. Cutler was ready for pretty much every single item that the consultant imagined.
Then, once the logistics were clarified, she set to develop a 70-page
proposal and guidebook. This information was used not only for the offices, clinic, and staff, but also for his home, as the doctor could refer to his personalized consultation for all of his feng shui references. This way the ideas could be implemented as time and money allowed for every environment over which the doctor presided.
Again, the consultant began from the street, observing the location from a distance, the neighborhood, the signage, the walkway, etc. Then, the reception area showed areas of concern for the clients as well as the staff. Client rooms were then easy to re-assign and design. The Doctor’s office was relocated furthest from the front door, positioning him in his most auspicious
location and direction.
Priorities were laid out and the guidebook provided strategic instruction for future reference in the years to come. Things like the dumpster being in the Doctor’s wealth area of the property, his office being too close to the front door, staff not being comfortable working in their stations, and serious clutter in important locations al stood out immediately. Then, recognizing key elements, feng shui cures for the doctor’s personal benefit, as well as classic cures for the collective health and well-being areas of the clinic was very important.
As usual, colors, elements, layout, room assignments and other key criteria were
employed for a final effect that kept new clients coming every week, as they felt very at ease being there. The clinic began a tremendous place of networking and word of mouth spread very quickly. The total time invested in consulting, calculating, and implementing took eight months, but was well worth the investment of time and money. When the Doctor decided it was time to sell his clinic, he garnered a handsome sum for all of his investments.
"Teresa, your consultation was so professional. The report you submitted was a book in
itself. I now have a veritable reference manual for my medical office. My staff enjoys the
improvements that you suggested. You know so much, you have so much to offer, I hope
that more and more people learn about your talents and benefit from them."
SC, Director, Tamalpais Pain Clinic, Corte Madera, CA
Case Study #6 – SPA FENG SHUI
San Marcos, CA – Sacred Sanctuary
Client: Owner
Some spas are small and yet so quaint. This is the case of an independently owned and operated spa sanctuary in Northern San Diego. Though the premises are over 3500sf, the clientele is mostly private guests who are distinguished in their lives and prefer some privacy. Guests want to arrive without fanfare and come to relax for several hours, do some personal transformation work, rejuvenate, and reserve this time for their personal regeneration.
The owner is a modest woman who immediately gains the trust of people who meet her. She had been a feng shui hobbyist and was delighted to report that the last owner had gone on to purchase a larger property, and felt there was good energy because of that. So wanted to make sure the ambience was not too austere or formal, yet had the dignified ambience of a five-star establishment, since she catered to an elevated echelon with her clientele.
It was true the vaulted ceilings were at once impressive and intimidating. Upon entering, one had the feeling one needed to immediately go into a smaller room to feel ”safe”. The backyard was unenclosed and dropped off a bit below the property line. All over the walls were white, but the carpets and flooring were all suitable not only for the collective purpose of healing, but also for the personal power elements of the proprietor.
To remedy the situation, a six-rod, hollow-metal wind chimes were placed in the North West to bring and maintain the helpful nature of her clientele and benefactors. Two large boulders replaced a tree in the North East to ground the wisdom area of the property. And a quaint little area with comfy chairs and a relaxed, low-level table was placed in the South West to foster close relationships. In the East area, lush plants filled the spiritual shrine that expanded in the North East area. Low, outdoor lighting emphasized this, and the walkways, which gave such a cared-for feeling to the sanctuary.
Again, a report was made for future reference.
"This property seemed dramatically transformed into a true sanctuary once the changes you recommended were implemented, Teresa. You have a finesse that allows the most beautiful grace to permeate. I love your sense of design as well as your vast body of feng shui information."

Case Study #7 – TV SHOW EXECUTIVE OFFICES
Encinitas, CA – Corporate Feng Shui
Client: PlanetX Producer
For years the TV producers of Planet X struggled to make better distribution deals. Their executive offices in Encinitas, California, were in a bit of shambles when the consultant first located the property. It was referred to as “a college frat house-type of location”. Clearly that doesn’t give the impression of a successful enterprise. To improve the health of the chi was the prime objective as well as create a space that would foster greater productivity.
To begin, the best compass directions and locations for the principles were calculated. They were each assigned office space in these auspicious areas, which they both were happiest with. Each office had the desks positioned for the best directions as well as artwork that inspired and uplifted the executives.
Then, going outside was the next critical step, to assess the landscaping. There were too many sharp leaved-plants and others that were actually dead. No clear path to the front door existed from the street. The backyard was cluttered with broken patio furniture and discarded planters and gaping holes where lush plants would soon be placed.
Inside, the bathrooms all needed a total renovation and the floor was retiled with lovely ceramic pieces of taupe-colored squared laid in a diamond pattern. The walls were sponged with cloud-like patterns. The living room came to life with a lovely oriental rug that tied the space together until a slanted ceiling that need up-lighting to lift it up. Production rooms were organized in a manner to promote greater focus for editing. The kitchen was the most used room and allowed for a dining room table for six to have ample space around it, while the preparation areas were easily made part of the total ambience.
Two weeks after all the changes were implemented, the executives landed several lucrative distribution deals, as well as tangential projects that all contributed to a significant increase in revenues. It was clear the property value had increased as well.
"Every suggestion you made was implemented, and now our home is a veritable center for rejuvenation. What a difference you have made in my home. Everyone who comes here comments on how more enjoyable it is to relax here. Business is picking up and my relationships have dramatically improved."
MW, TV Producer, Encinitas, CA
Case Study #8 - CORPORATE FENG SHUI
Redwood City, CA - Product Design
Client: Sun MicroSystems
Award-winning, Senior Designers brought in CLUB SHANGRI-LA’s Feng Shui Consultant, Teresa Ann Foxworthy for their latest product design project: a new personal computer “tower”. As a half-day assignment, this project used traditional feng shui design principles to enhance the end users experience, and improve the overall production, distribution, and application process.
Using the formulas from the key feng shui schools, Form, Compass, Black Hat, and Lo Shu, Ms. Foxworthy’s Holistic Feng Shui recommendations were implemented. The product shape, color, placement of operating dials and knobs, and other primary design features rendered a highly functional and aesthetic composite for review by the other design and management team members.
Keeping up with industry standards is always important, especially in the fast-paced technology field. Creating new benchmarks is even more estimable. Using ancient techniques for contemporary solutions is an often overlooked but ultimately rewarding approach to modern business practices.
The designers were not the only ones who enjoyed the feng shui design strategies. Management decision-makers and fellow designers were both impressed with what the designers did with the feng shui principles for this new line of personal computers.
"This was a very clever approach to the challenge of our new tower design. Very
professional and insightful consultation! We look forward to having you back for more."
